The University of Catania research group is a partner in the HiCONNECTS project, which is financed through the HORIZON-KDT-JU-2021-1-IA call under G.A. 101097296. The project aims to develop HI solutions to transform the cloud platform into decentralized edge computing, bringing cloud services closer to users sustainably. The project began in January 2023 and brings together a consortium of 64 partners to address major societal and industrial challenges. The research activities of UNICT mainly focus on developing innovative methods for lot dispatching in semiconductor production systems in collaboration with ST Microelectronics Italy, including plants in Catania and Agrate (MI). Additionally, the research group will collaborate with researchers at Politecnico di Milano to integrate multi-fidelity methods for dispatching, utilizing both innovative machine learning techniques and traditional scheduling methods established in relevant literature.
