The H2021 KDT-JU project denoted as HiConnects “Heterogeneous Integration for Connectivity and Sustainability” completed its first year of activity. University of Catania (UNICT) is one of the 64 European partners involved in the project (scient. Resp. Prof. Antonio Costa), which comprises several companies aimed to develop sustainable, energy-efficient, and user-friendly cloud and edge computing platforms. The research unit of Catania operates in the task 3.2.1, which focuses on innovative methods capable to enhance the short-term scheduling practices currently adopted by STMicroelectronics. To this end, UNICT is working on a twofold objective: i) developing new dispatching heuristics based on efficient constructive methods. Particularly, the cleaning-diffusion production stage, which can be configured as a complex hybrid flowshop with re-entrant flow, is investigated. ii) Implementing new encoding schemes into the AI production planning tool devised by STMicroelectronics.
