Sostenere

The Italian group for the sustainability of manufacturing technologies (SOStenibilità delle TEcNologie manifatturiERE)

was born with a dual purpose:

  • to promote the culture of sustainability in the manufacturing filed. The sustainability concept – that system characteristic able to combine its purposes with those of the other system/s with which it is related – has now become a paradigm for many years in many cultural and scientific areas and consequently, it is an element of constant attention in economic and social life. The group promotes active discussion on research on manufacturing technologies and sustainable production systems to define and reach new goals that can find useful effects on the economic, environmental and social life;
  • to foster the international scientific research by active discussions and initiatives in the field of manufacturing technologies and sustainable production systems, which is still at its dawn from the point of view of both theoretical results as well as process analysis. A new multidisciplinary and multi-sectorial approach is promoted starting form the deep competences on manufacturing technologies to capture the complex interactions between different phenomena (energetic, mechanical, thermal and chemical phenomena). The science of manufacturing technologies is the cultural terrain the most suitable to find new solutions for sustainable manufacturing in a systemic approach.

Topics of interest and potential collaboration The opportunity for the group today is to be able to act transversely with respect to the product sectors, as a promoter of the culture of sustainability, since there is no specific sector of interest.

The issues that can represent an aggregation element for scientific research and common innovations are the following (not exhaustive):

  • Sustainable materials for products
  • Sustainable machining methods and technologies
  • Advanced product design/redesign
  • Effective products/processes
  • Disassembly/recovery
  • Design for reuse & remanufacturing
  • Modular and reconfigurable design
  • Design for improved performance
  • Sustainable processes
  • Advanced process technologies
  • Integrated processes
  • Improved process performance
  • Sustainable systems
  • Human factors and social issues
  • Remanufacturing
  • Sustainable manufacturing operations
  • Energy and Resource efficient manufacturing processes
  • Recycling methods
  • LCA of manufactured products and processes
