SI-MARE project aims to implement and evaluate novel materials and joining techniques within the shipbuilding industry, specifically focusing on enhancing hull lightweight properties. The project involves the examination and experimentation of various cutting-edge technologies such as mechanical joining, welding, and bonding. These techniques have already been successfully employed in sectors like automotive and aerospace, and their applicability in shipyard manufacturing processes is being investigated. By studying and testing methods like friction stir welding and explosion welding for steel/aluminum combinations, the project target is to identify the advantages and disadvantages of these innovative approaches compared to traditional systems in the prototyping and production stages.
