TYRECS project comes from the competences of the research group of Manufacturing Technologies of the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Rome Tor Vergata, dealing with circular economy and material recycling. The goal is manufacturing smart ecological buoys with the ability of removing oils and other organic liquids from the surface of seas, lakes, and rivers. The green profile of the buoy is amplified using recycled materials, mainly for the cleaning tablets which separate the oils from the water surface and are made by pyrolysis of spent tires. The filtering mechanism is passive and can work for long time. The technological appeal of the buoy is improved by the original shapes and the use of a complex assistance electronics (such as GPS and environmental measuring systems).
