The 16th edition of the biennial AITEM Conference was held from Wednesday 13th to Friday 15th September 2023 at the University of Naples Federico II. With record figures: following the growing number of associates over the last years, this edition had 209 participants.
As usual, the first day was held in plenary session with institutional greetings, the keynote speech by Stefano Bortoli of the company Leonardo, and the contributions by our Young Researchers, carefully assessed by a special committee for assigning the Young Researcher Award “Edoardo Capello”, won by Leandro Iorio from the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
The parallel sessions of the following days covered different topics: “Manufacturing processes design, optimization and engineering”, “Additive manufacturing and reverse engineering”, “Assembly, disassembly and circular economy”, “Process and system simulation, optimization and digital manufacturing”, and “Materials processing technology”. The session “Work in Progress” was dedicated to research activity characterised by results that are not consolidated yet but are of interest to the community. A new addition of this year was the presentation, in a dedicated session, of the White Papers produced by AITEM’s Sezioni. 81 contributions were presented overall.
Two publications resulted from the Conference: the proceedings from the Traditional and Work in Progress Sessions https://www.mrforum.com/product/xviaitem/ and the book “Selected Topics in Manufacturing - Emerging Trends from the Perspective of AITEM’s Young Researchers” published by Springer https://link.springer.com/book/10.1007/978-3-031-41163-2 .
In the same days, also the AITEM Academy basic training course “Innovative tools and topics in manufacturing processes and production systems” was followed by a record number of 34 participants. The course aimed to provide an overview of the state of the art on the most innovative tools and topics in the area of manufacturing processes and production systems, focusing on the most current investigation methods and techniques, as well as on the methods of organizing the research itself, also providing the opportunity to learn the use of a typical simulation software with the collaboration of Hexagon Italia.
A special Thank you to all participants, speakers, organizers, and staff members. We look forward to seeing you at the 2024 Workshop in Perugia!
